A warlock is a researcher and high damage ranged unit. They "work" to make research in the Library. The warlock is a critical creature in Dungeon Overlord, as it is the main creature who can accumulate research, which is essential to advancing in the game.
Having less Warlocks than your library can support should be seen as wasted research. However, having more Warlocks than supported can be a risk unless all are levelled equally (see library article for more detail).
The warlock has a powerful ranged attack and is a great defense unit if the dungeon has other units to protect it.
A warlocks level DOES affect research rate
- Refer to the Library article for a list of what will and will not increase the research rate of warlocks

- 10 Carry
- +20% Research rate (percent or percentage points? probably the latter)
Researching with Warlocks[]
Many players quickly level the warlocks in their first two expansion Dungeons in order to gain as much research/hour as possible, and place large numbers of bookcases in one and eventually both libraries to maximize the research yield per warlock.
Each upgrade to the Library will allow for more warlocks to accumulate research at a time. This can be seen in the room bonus labeled "Maximum Worker Bonus:". The number there denotes the maximum number of warlocks that can research in that Dungeon. More information on Libraries and research can be found in their respective pages on the Wiki.
